Why is the Boeing V-22 named Osprey?

As the USMC was planned to be the primary user, I'm sure those who named it (most likely at Boeing) thought that naming it after a sea eagle would be appropriate. As far as resemblance to a bird, that probably didn't figure into the calculations. read more
