They changed it because they wanted to officially declare a caliphate, ISIS stands for Islamic state in Syria in Iraq but they don't want to stop there they want to keep expanding the islamic state and they want to make it the one in the world. read more

Back in June, Inquisitr explained how the proper name for the brutal Sunni insurgent group terrorizing Iraq and Syria is ISIS, not ISIL. Since then, this sordid team of terrorists has decided to change its name once again (it was previously known as Al-Qaeda in Iraq) to just the Islamic State, or IS. read more

On the other side, most other news organizations used ISIS, at least until the organization changed its name most recently. The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Reuters all preferred ISIS, but all three outlets also used all three names more-or-less interchangeably. read more
