Mexico wasn't a founding member of NATO because, at the time NATO was formed, Mexico was strongly inclined towards isolationism and neutralism. Turkey and Greece are NATO members, and has been for a long time and they're no where near the North Atlantic coast line. Where as Mexico is an Atlantic ocean nation, and is very close to major U.S Naval Bases. read more
Mexico doesn't have a very big or powerful military. They rank somwhere between Pakistan and Indonesia. You're right in that they have more active and reserve soldiers than other members of NATO, but it's not firepower that those countries bring, it's strategic locations. read more
