Given that (a) there's a fairly large Apple Store in Seattle (in University Village, though - yeah - that's not in *downtown* Seattle) and (b) there's an Apple Store in Bellevue Square, which is within sight of office buildings with the Microsoft logo on the top of them, I think you're barking up the wrong tree with your guesses on the possible root cause. read more

Other pockets of downtown are dominated by hotels, which won't exactly generate huge crowds on the street. If you're visiting for a convention, the convention center is actually in a fairly odd place without much function for locals, so though you are "downtown" you'll need to venture out of that immediate area to find anything interesting. read more
