Why many programmers are avid gamers?

I don't think that most programmers and software engineers are avid gamers, but my interest in programming certainly stemmed from playing games. My brother and I would both spend hours in front of a computer monitor, excitedly hunting monsters and grinding quests to gain EXP and money. read more

Many programmers get into programming from gaming, then getting into mods, then programming, so that may be part of the reason. It could also be that both of these stimulate problem solving, and both being on technology, they will give the gamer/programmer similar feelings. read more

It might sound strange, but playing games as a child is largely the reason why I’m interested in programming. I’m willing to bet a good sum of money that a fraction of programmers and software engineers in the world were avid gamers or at least interested in games in their childhood. read more
