This is but one of the reasons why Black History Month is important. Because it can't be found in school books and in classrooms. Every now and then, if you're lucky, you'll have a teacher that tries to incorporate some information into their class. But worse than that is the intentional covering up of our history. read more

Hopefully this month becomes a springboard for learning more about Black History year round and not only during the month of February. I think every culture or nationality or gender or subculture should have a "time period" where we can hear their story told from their authors from their perspective. read more

The idea of labelling it as 'black' history month suggests that the history of ethnically 'black' people is completely separate to that of 'white' people, this is indeed not the case as all humans' history is intertwined with each other and therefore if there were to be any sort of history month it should be of all peoples and their heritage. read more
