Why shouldn't explorers explore the Mariana Trench?

I have seen Don Walsh speak (Jacques Piccard is dead) and he is very much in favor of continued exploration of these areas of the ocean. The main reason this is not happening however is simply lack of financial support, certainly there is interest in the oceanographic community. read more

Work with this type of equipment has been critical—indeed SOI returned to the Mariana Trench in December of 2014 on a second lander project. Ultimately researchers hope to systematically explore large swaths of the world’s deepest trenches to get a more complete view of what is found there. read more
