Why will horses allow you to ride them into battle?

I never fully understood this until a personal experience. My wife and I were returning to the boarding stable from a ride on street trails. A bulldog (which as we later learned had never encountered horses before) ran from a house across the street and attacked my horse. read more

If horses WERENT herd animals, (or we weren't able to establish ourselves as their herd leaders) given their size and strength there is no way people with their relatively minor pieces of equipment would be able to ride or control a horse at all, never mind ride it into battle. read more

Horses are herd animals, so unless the horse is the leader of the herd, the horse that we separate from his herd is looking for a new leader, and a person is an acceptable leader to him if the person handles that situation right. read more
