Actually, if Voyager had been launched on a trajectory plane that was perpendicular to the glactic plane, then it would already have, technically, left the Galaxy. But, the craft was launched along the ecliptic plane which is pretty much parallel to the arm of the Milky Way galaxy in which we reside, so ti will take eons to cross the entire galaxy. read more
