Yes, carfree cities could absolutely work but current examples show they work as tourist towns. Walt Disney World could be considered car free if you just count the theme park proper but for an actual town, there’s Mackinac Island in Michigan. Cars aren’t allowed on the island with everyone going by foot, bike, or horse and buggy. read more
