Would a steam engine work on liquid nitrogen?

Best Answers

Perhaps you could make the pressure work to drive the steam engine, though I suspect this would take a great deal of highly pressurized liquid nitrogen, or the nitrogen would have to be heated to evaporate it and create the pressure necessary. With all of that said, I doubt it could make to work given the temperature of LN2. read more

The cryogenic engine gets its name from the extremely cold temperature at which liquid nitrogen is stored. Air moving around the vehicle is used to heat liquid nitrogen to a boil. Once it boils, it turns to gas in the same way that heated water forms steam in a steam engine. read more

liquid nitrogen vehicle is powered by liquid nitrogen, which is stored in a tank. The engine works by heating the liquid nitrogen in a heat exchanger, extracting heat from the ambient air and using the resulting pressurized gas to operate a piston or rotary engine. read more
