Best Answer: Rosi, My brother is FBI and I'm a police sergeant and a former detective. FBI special agents have a prestigious job. They can fly with their firearms without having any paperwork other than their credentials. My brother made more money as an agent than I did as a detective. read more
I’d say there are at least three variables that influence whether a police detective earns more or less than an FBI agent: 1) The locality; 2) Years of tenure; and 3) Overtime worked by the detective. As a very general rule, FBI agents earn more than many of their police counterparts in their cities, but there are certainly exceptions. read more
