Only the thought about this movie is enough to make you cry. And I have to mention that there's something more than just a tragedy and mourning the loss of a loved one.

Texhnolyze, and to be honest nothing in this thread even comes close to how soul-crushingly depressing this anime is (even Grave of the Fireflies is a stretch). It's not really a tearjerker though. More of a "makes you dead inside" kind of show. edit: except for Barefoot Gen, that movie was incredibly depressing.
