The purpose of this scholarship is to help you understand the risks of texting while driving. You must be a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior or a current or entering college or graduate school student of any level. Home schooled students are also eligible. There is no age limit. Complete the application form including a 140-character message about texting while driving.

The Optimist International Oratorical Contest will begin at the Club level, proceed to the Zone level and end with a contest at the World Championships level. Contestants must enter through a local Optimist Club.

American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest
American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest

Young orators earn some of the most generous college scholarships available to high school students. Over $138,000 in scholarships can be awarded each year. The overall national contest winner gets an $18,000 scholarship. Second place takes home $16,000, and third gets $14,000. Each department (state) winner who is certified into and participates in the national contest’s first round receives a $1,500 scholarship.
