The San Francisco World Spirits Competition was held in late March this year and there were a lot of standouts in the single malt scotch category. The competition awarded a “Best Whisky” for the category but also a bunch of “Double Gold.” Reddit user there_is_no_clutch compiled a list of ...
Prohibition Edition Released 90 years after the end of the era which it celebrates, Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition has been crafted as a salute to the notorious Captain William McCoy, who smuggled Cutty Sark blended Scotch whisky into America during the Prohibition era of the 1920s.
Highland Park 12 Year Old While touring Scotland in 2005 we stopped in Edinburgh before heading for London. There I had my first Scotch tasting. I tried several from Laphroig through Highland Park to Glen Morangie and Jura. I kept coming back to Highland Park. I had no previous knowledge of single malts and I just liked this one so I bought a ...
Probably this is because the distinction (a blend involving several malt whiskies, but no grain whiskies, whereas a “blended scotch” like the ubiquitous Johnnie Walker contains several malt whiskies and one or more grain whiskies) is a little geeky for the average consumer.
Price: $50 This is the scotch-drinker's scotch. A scotch that tastes like scotch—burnt rubber, smoke, and Robitussin, oh my! But, I'll be damned if it's not delicious. Laphroaig is a whisky giant that has been going strong since 1815, so you know you can trust them.

A superb 18 year old from the Highland Park distillery and a winner of a Gold Medal at the 2005 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt Nose: A profusion of ripe floral notes and fresh blossom with a delectable fruit salad.
Glenkinchie Distillery is found just 15 miles away from Edinburgh in Pencaitland, East Lothian. The distillery originates back to 1825 when brothers John and George Rate opened the distillery. The Distillery was originally called the Milton Distillery.
Cragganmore is also the principal malt used in Diageo’s wildly popular blend Johnnie Walker Black Label, providing the gentle malt base. The distillery-released 12 year-old comes exclusively from 2nd-fill bourbon casks, to reduce the woodiness imparted by long aging in first-fill barrels.
The Macallan 25 Year Old Sherry Oak. There are many nice Macallan bottles to be had—21 Year Old Fine Oak, for starters— but our choice, and the one that really impressed us the most, is the 25 Year Old Sherry Oak. You get tons of fruit, as if you’re smelling and tasting your way through a summertime farmer’s market.
Glenmorangie (pronounced with the stress on the second syllable: listen (help · info); the toponym is believed to derive from either Gaelic Gleann Mòr na Sìth "vale of tranquillity" or Gleann Mór-innse "vale of big meadows") is a distillery in Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland, that produces single malt Scotch whisky.
Lagavulin distillery is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Lagavulin on the island of Islay, Scotland. The standard Lagavulin single malt is 16 years old (43%), though they regularly release a 12-year-old cask strength variety, a Distiller's edition finished in Pedro Ximénez casks, and 25- and 30-year-old varieties.
Macallan is my favorite scotch, and Glenfidich, but this 10 year fine oak sucked. No flavor at all. Almost like it was watered down. I'm looking forward to trying the 17 year fine oak though. The 12 is a definite stand by in my collection. For those of us that collect and drink scotch but can't afford 300 dollar bottles, this is one of those drams that needs to be in the cupboard. It's not the greatest whisky around, but it is very good and very smooth. Vanilla and fruit abound.
