Beige is nearly infinite in its subtlety. Which beige you choose can alter the entire mood of a room. It looks different depending on the architecture and kind of light. Beige is also known as tan, buff, cream and even khaki. It varies from nearly brown to very pale cream. It can have warm yellow undertones or pink undertones or be nearly gray.
Umber is a natural brown or reddish-brown earth pigment that contains iron oxide and manganese oxide. It's darker than the other similar earth pigments, ochre and sienna. In its natural form, it's called raw umber. When heated (calcinated), the color becomes more intense, and the color is known as burnt umber.
Chestnut (color) Chestnut is a color, a medium reddish shade of brown (displayed right), and is named after the nut of the chestnut tree. An alternate name for the color is badious. Indian red is a similar but separate and distinct color from chestnut. Chestnut is also a very dark tan that almost appears brown.
The color chocolate is a tone of dark brown that resembles chocolate. At right is displayed the color traditionally called chocolate. The first recorded use of chocolate as a color name in English was in 1737. This color is a representation of the color of the most common type of chocolate, milk chocolate.
