Types of Circumcision

Circumcision performed using the Gomco clamp is usually quick and effective, and results in very little bleeding. However, every clinician performing circumcision occasionally has concerns or questions regarding the procedure.

Three different kinds of clamps or plastic rings are used for circumcision: the Gomco clamp, the Plastibell device, and the Mogen clamp. But the procedure is similar for all. The clamp or ring is attached to the penis and the doctor clips off excess foreskin.

Circumcision: Plastibell Technique. Plastibell. The Plastibell has the advantage of continuing hemostasis after the procedure is over, as the suture remains in place for a few days. The disadvantage is that there is a foreign body at the site, which could become dislodged or infected.
