bilineatus – Lucas, Dupaix-Hall & Biegler, 1972 Common names: cantil, Mexican cantil, Mexican ground pit viper, Cantil viper, black moccasin, Mexican moccasin, more. Agkistrodon bilineatus is a venomous pit viper species found in Mexico and Central America as far south as Costa Rica.
The Copperheads represented the more extreme wing of the Northern Democrats. Notable Copperheads included two Democratic Congressmen from Ohio: Clement L. Vallandigham and Alexander Long. Republican prosecutors accused some prominent Copperheads of treason in a series of trials in 1864. Copperheadism was a highly contentious grass-roots movement.
Range: The Cottonmouth is more southern, and the Copperhead range is more eastern and extends further north. Both are found primarily in water areas - in the south, Cottonmouth just love swamps, more than big, clear lakes. Copperheads are more likely to be found on dry land, but Cottonmouth really stick to water.
