Clarity determines how clean a diamond is. Nearly all diamonds, lab-grown and mined alike, have inclusions. These are imperfections that contribute to the overall uniqueness of a diamond, and commonly consist of crystals, feathers, clouds and trace minerals in mined diamonds, and trace metals in lab-grown diamonds.
Generally speaking, diamonds that fall within the Included ranges (I1 – I3) would have their brilliance and fire negatively impacted. This is due to the obstruction of light paths caused by inclusions within the stone.
I2-I3: Clarity grades not carried by Blue Nile. Inclusions are obvious, visible to the eye under 10x magnification.
Flawless (FL) and internally flawless (IF) diamonds are found at the pinnacle of the clarity scale. These amazing diamonds symbolize pure and unconditional love, making them a popular choice among couples. When examined under 10X magnification by an expert gemologist, FL and IF diamonds show no visible inclusions.
