Deep Tissue Massage. Deep tissue massage is best for giving attention to certain painful, stiff "trouble spots" in your body. The massage therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin.
Plucking is a percussion (also known as tapotement) movement. During the plucking movement, the therapist's fingers are outstretched and tissue is picked-up between the massage therapist's thumb and fingers by the thumb closing onto the fingers (a movement that may resembe the action of birds' beaks opening and closing).
Massage and effleurage are two types of cutaneous stimulation used during labor for effective pain relief and comfort. Effleurage is a French word. When Dr. Fernand Lamaze's notes were translated from French into English, one of the few words kept was effleurage.
Massage isn’t about contorting your body in unnatural ways, and if you’re hurting somebody you’re probably doing something wrong. With that, on to the strokes. Effleurage. Effleurage is the most common stroke used in massage. It is a gentle sliding of the hands over the skin. For the most part, effleurage strokes are pointed towards the heart.
Effleurage Massage Stroke Effleurage is the means by which you apply oil to the body. This stroke is the perfect method to begin a massage as it allows the other person to become familiar with your hands. It can also be used as a long stroke on the legs and as a circular motion on the larger areas such as the back. In this instance, effleurage lends itself to the use of gliding circles over the whole area.
Effleurage. The term effleurage is a french word that means “to skim or flow.” Effleurage is a long smooth stroke with the palm of the hand. It is used in the beginning of a massage to warm up the muscles before moving onto to deeper or more vigorous massage movements. Effleurage strokes glide smoothly over the clients body with a varying amount of length and pressure. These strokes are also used at the end of massaging each body area as a way to soothe the nerves of the muscles.
Then other massage techniques will be used, such as tapotement and petrissage strokes and techniques. Massage oil is generally applied to aid the techniques and improve the experience for the client. Deep effleurage techniques involve using some firm pressure and the need to slide easily around the clients skin.
