A good ghost film tends to be part murder mystery, part supernatural horror and all-terrifying, the sort of movie to watch at night tucked safely under the covers—next to your trusty baseball bat. Here is a list of spooky flicks worthy of taking a swing.
The Haunted House of Horror, also titled Horror House and The Dark is a 1969 British film, an early type of teen "slasher film". It starred Frankie Avalon and Jill Haworth as young adults looking for a thrill by spending the night in an old mansion in the English countryside. Avalon was nearly 30 years old at the time of filming.
The sequence in The Possession is particularly laughable. There have certainly been far worse horror efforts this year both on the indie circuit and for main Hollywood releases, but The Possession is easily the most lifeless – content on existing without identity.
The film sold over 22.5 million tickets in North America to become the highest grossing slasher film of all time, the first slasher film to cross $100 million at the domestic box office, and the most successful horror film since The Silence of the Lambs (1991).
