As applied to dances, Latin dance is any type of social dance of Latin American origin. Latin hip motion. A characteristic type of hip motion found in the technique of performing a step in Latin and Rhythm dances. Although most visible in the hips, much of the effect is created through the action of the feet and knees.

Cha Cha
Cha Cha

The cha-cha-chá, or simply cha-cha in the U.S., is a dance of Cuban origin. It is danced to the music of the same name introduced by Cuban composer and violinist Enrique Jorrin in the early 1950s. This rhythm was developed from the danzón-mambo. The name of the dance is an onomatopoeia derived from the shuffling sound of the dancers' feet.

Irish dancing is NOT just for girls: Like any form of dance, having representation from both boys and girls is what makes it complete. Think of Swan Lake without the prince, or Ginger Rodgers without Fred Astaire.

In Latin America, many dancers dance Cumbia to Salsa music. Indeed, some say there is more Cumbia danced to Salsa in Central America, than there is Salsa. Today, Cumbia is popular in all Central American states and beyond - from Mexico in the north to Argentina in the south.
