Farmland, meanwhile, is used variously in reference to all agricultural land, to all cultivable land, or just to the newly restricted sense of "arable land". Depending upon its use of artificial irrigation, the FAO's "agricultural land" may be divided into irrigated and non-irrigated land.
Commercial land use is the use of land for commercial purposes including building offices, shops, resorts and restaurants as opposed to construction of a residential house. Land can also be used for growing commercial crops, which are crops that are sold instead of used for personal consumption.
Mixed-use developments that bring together residential, commercial, and retail uses in a single geographic area will also tend to have high to medium density housing as the housing in these areas tend to be multi-unit, such as apartments or condos. On the other hand, a large residential subdivision consisting of one-acre lots will typically have a low housing density.
