“Medieval” encompasses a huge time period and a huge variety of cultures, medieval warfare varied wildly from place to place and from time to time, and even within a single culture at a certain time there would be many different roles on the battlefield, most of which would require the use of a different weapon.

Medieval warfare is the European warfare of the Middle Ages. Technological, cultural, and social developments had forced a dramatic transformation in the character of warfare from antiquity, changing military tactics and the role of cavalry and artillery.
