Sports photography refers to the genre of photography that covers all types of sports. In the majority of cases, professional sports photography is a branch of photojournalism, while amateur sports photography, such as photos of children playing association football, is a branch of vernacular photography.
Aerial photography is the taking of photographs from an aircraft or other flying object. Platforms for aerial photography include fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or "drones"), balloons, blimps and dirigibles, rockets, pigeons, kites, parachutes, stand-alone telescoping and vehicle-mounted poles.
Candid photography. A candid photograph is a photograph captured without creating a posed appearance. This is achieved in many ways, for example: when the subject is in motion, by avoiding prior preparation of the subject, by surprising the subject, by not distracting the subject during the process of taking photos.
There is a fine line between photojournalism and candid photography, a line that was blurred by photographers such as Bresson and Weegee. Photojournalism often sets out to tell a story in images, whereas candid photography simply captures people living an event.
Conceptual photography began in the late 60's / early 70's and was an extension of Conceptual Art in general, a genre which rejected traditional aesthetic values and simply relied on an intellectual idea that was communicated often through very spare, "ugly" or utilitarian imagery.
Documentary photography is a much used term, but few of its users seem to have a particularly concrete or comfortable definition of it. Some treat it as a synonym for photojournalism, but use it so exclusively that it seems to imply some special value, that this other term lacks.
