Desmids

Plankton (singular plankter) are the diverse collection of organisms that live in large bodies of water and are unable to swim against a current. They provide a crucial source of food to many large aquatic organisms, such as fish and whales.

Diatoms
Diatoms

Diatoms are a type of plankton called phytoplankton, the most common of the four plankton types. Another classification divides plankton into eight types based on size: in this scheme, diatoms are a type of microalgae.

Dinoflagellates
Dinoflagellates

Dinoflagellate tabulations can be grouped into six "tabulation types": gymnodinoid, suessoid, gonyaulacoid–peridinioid, nannoceratopsioid, dinophysioid, and prorocentroid. The chloroplasts in most photosynthetic dinoflagellates are bound by three membranes, suggesting they were probably derived from some ingested algae.
