Types of Praxis

Test Structure. Praxis Subject Assessments are 1, 2, 2.5, 3.5 or 4 hours long and include selected-response questions, essay or constructed-response questions, or a combination of both question types. The number of questions and length of each test varies depending on the test.

Praxis ® Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) tests measure academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. These tests were designed to provide comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs.

Moreover, an increasing number of test-takers are sitting for the Praxis’ non-teaching exams. These are proficiency tests for school staff and management. Below is a list of the types of Praxis exams that ETS currently offers.
