Types of Preaching

Preaching analogies is very biblical Lesson Goal I hope to encourage the preaching of sermons using an analogy. Lesson Intro Jesus is our prime model of good preaching. He used analogy continually. Many of his parables are analogies. Yet, his analogies are not limited to his parables.

analytical preaching makes the believer happy and thereby increases his love for the Word and his gratitude to the God who gave us his Word. That is one facet of the power in analytical preaching.

Unger in his book "Principles of Expository Preaching," says that the Biographical Narrative Sermon is really just a variety of the topical message. It is the type that deals with the lives of Bible personalities and is best when treated expositorily.

Answer: Expository preaching involves the exposition, or comprehensive explanation, of the Scripture; that is, expository preaching presents the meaning and intent of a biblical text, providing commentary and examples to make the passage clear and understandable.

b) Keep to broader interpretation. Never try to interpret every tiny detail of the type. Keep to the broader outline of Truth. c) Don't be dogmatic. Avoid being dogmatic as to what the type teaches. d) Illustrate Doctrine. Never base your Doctrinal position on the teaching of types. Types should illustrate doctrine, not initiate it.

The Textual Sermon is a miniature Expository Sermon covering a few verses, a verse, or part of a verse, but not the whole paragraph. Just to review, Broadus in his book, "Preparation and Delivery of Sermons," says that topical sermons are those in which the subject alone is derived from the text.

Topical preaching can be quite effective, but there are inherent limitations that must be understood if it is to be used properly. Sermons can be generally grouped in four types: textual, topical, textual-topical, and expository.

An expository sermon follows the text of Scripture, and then seeks to draw out the full meaning of it. The goal of each type of sermon is to apply the Word of God to the lives of the hearers. In topical preaching, the speaker has the freedom to address issues being faced by his hearers.
