Like Faith, I primed drywall with Kilz Clean Start Primer, and then painted with BEHR Ultra Premium Plus Low VOC flat latex paint. Oil-based Oil-based primers and paints have been an industry standard for decades. These primers work with both oil paints and latex paints, making them very versatile and applicable to a wide variety of surfaces. Wood (painted or unpainted), steel and other metals, and surfaces with existing paint, such as interior and exterior walls are ideal surfaces for oil-based primers.
If you need to paint over a pre-painted surface, satin paint will work better than high-gloss or semi-gloss. However, if the pre-existing paint is glossy or exceptionally dark, you’ll need to lay down a coat or two of primer before applying the satin paint.
Re: What Is Shellac Based Primer. Have you noticed the price increase of Shellac over the past few years.... someone told me it had to do with the laq bug being displaced from its habitat by development in the third world countries.
