Types of Rhubarb

A pie plant which should be in every garden as it's the earliest produce in the spring. Use it in mouth-watering pies, sauce and baked goods. This variety produces long, thick stalks that have a dark red color with a light interior.

Rhubarb, Rheum x coltorum is available in many cultivars (named hybrid varieties). One important characteristic of the different cultivars is the stalk color which can range from red to green. In between colors are often called pink or speckled.

They produce quite heartily making it a very reliable popular winter variety with peak colour in late Autumn. Excellent for freezing and jams. Easy to grow and great to cook.
