Roman Shades are available in a large variety of fabrics (endless choice for colours and paterns), can be modern or traditional, light filtering or blackout depending on your choice of fabric, can look very heavy, similar to heavy draperies, depending on choice of fabric. The first pic is a cellular shade, the second a bottom-up cellular, the third a patterned roman and the fourth a striped roman.

Blinds are “hard” window treatments with slats or vanes made of wood, composite, vinyl or aluminum. They can be horizontal or vertical. Shutters are a gorgeous alternative but function in much the same way. Shades are “soft” window coverings made of fabric, vinyl, woven woods or grasses.

There are lots of differences between Cellular (Honeycomb Shades) and Roman Shades. Cellular shades are very energy efficient (available in single, double or triple cells - more cells = greater insulation but also greater cost), available in a variety of colours and materials, available in top/down-bottom up, small headrail so minimal mounting space is required and good blackout shade (smaller gaps on the sides).

For the most part, yes. But it does depend on the style. Certain styles of Roman Shades (Flat, Cascade, Pleated and Aventura) are very easy to operate and ideal for everyday use. However, our other styles of Roman Shade (Tulip and Relaxed) are more decorative and a little more high-maintenance to operate on a daily basis.
