Types of Settlement

Dispersed settlement or Streusiedlung in Brülisau, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Switzerland A dispersed settlement, also known as a scattered settlement, is one of the main types of settlement patterns used by landscape historians to classify rural settlements found in England and other parts of the world.

Four Types of Rural Settlement in India are (i) compact, settlements (ii) semi-compact settlements, (iii) hamleted and (iv) dispersed or scattered type settlements! Before we proceed to discuss settlement types, it is worth making a distinction between settlement types and settlement patterns.
