Types of Starter

Best: Froakie
Best: Froakie

Though he may not be the strongest starter initially, he provides the best type diversity for your team and is a worthwhile time investment. Not only can Bulbasaur easily plow through the first three gyms, he also evolves into Venusaur: the strongest grass-type Pokemon in Generation 1.

Brushless DC Motor
Brushless DC Motor

Brushless DC motors were made possible by the development of solid state electronics in the 1960s. An electric motor develops torque by alternating the polarity of rotating magnets attached to the rotor, the turning part of the machine, and stationary magnets on the stator which surrounds the rotor.

Electrically Excited DC Motor
Electrically Excited DC Motor

A brushed DC motor is an internally commutated electric motor designed to be run from a direct current power source. Brushed motors were the first commercially important application of electric power to driving mechanical energy, and DC distribution systems were used for more than 100 years to operate motors in commercial and industrial buildings.

Ironless or Coreless Rotor Motor
Ironless or Coreless Rotor Motor

The name coreless (or ironless) refers to the motor construction. These motors, unlike most other types of motors, have no iron core-armature in the rotor. Special skewed or honeycomb patterns are used to wind the rotor coils to ensure mechanical strength and evenly distribute the magnetic flux for all coils in the rotor winding.

Permanent Magnet DC Motor
Permanent Magnet DC Motor

As in PMDC motor the field is produced by permanent magnet, there is no need of drawing field coils in the equivalent circuit of permanent magnet DC motor. The supply voltage to the armature will have armature resistance drop and rest of the supply voltage is countered by back emf of the motor.

Switched Reluctance Motor
Switched Reluctance Motor

The switched reluctance motor (SRM) is a type of stepper motor, an electric motor that runs by reluctance torque. Unlike common DC motor types, power is delivered to windings in the stator (case) rather than the rotor.

Torque Motor
Torque Motor

What is expected in stall torque from a regular car/small tractor starter motor? I measured 7-9 Nm on a starter motor I had lying around, and I'm not sure if this motor is crappy or if such performance is expected. It was fed with 12V battery and parallelled with a battery booster (basically a transformer with 12V ouput). I couldn't measure the current, but the boosters 40A current indicator looked like it was going to hurl its pointer through the glass.

Worst: Turtwig
Worst: Turtwig

Among the three starter Pokémon of its generation, Turtwig has the best defense stats which might give you a benefit in the early game. After that, however, Turtwig doesn’t have much to offer; it’s a slow Pokémon without any special skills that only gains a second type at its last evolution.
