Since 2014, we have spent more than 120 hours scouring manufacturer and review sites to find the best budget vacuum cleaners on the market. We narrowed down the features that mattered most and created charts to document the features of each vacuum — and this was all before we even started to test.
It shared that honor with three others in our canister vacuum comparison. But the other quiet vacuum cleaners were not as impressive in the suction tests. The C4 Cyclonic tied for the best in suction in addition to quiet performance.
Cordless vacuum cleaners are a great idea. While most aren’t as powerful as corded vacuum cleaners, cutting the wire is hugely useful and convenient. They let you clean in a completely different way.
The understated $180 Hoover Linx stick vacuum may not look exceptional, but it performed even better than the Dyson DC59 during our testing. Pet hair, fruity Cheerios, and sand and sawdust were no match for this surprising debris-collecting machine.
