Are the people of Hong Kong rude?

I just returned from 4 days in Hong Kong. I was born in Hong Kong and moved to the U.S. when I was 8 years old. For the most part, I enjoyed my stay and got to sightsee and visit family members. However, I can't shake the feeling that people in Hong Kong can be very rude, especially when it comes to money. read more

But we also have to understand, that the people of Hong Kong are not rude at all. It is just their way of life that they grew up in and we, as Malaysian, of all people, should respect that. They are just trying to be efficient and doing their best not to waste time. read more

You may have been unlucky, we have never found Hong Kong people particularly rude, especially compared with the US, where if someone is not expecting a tip they tend to treat you very off handedly. read more

I know people from Hong Kong and their description of things in HK, their rudeness is very similar to the famous rudeness of people in France. I asked my friends from Hong Kong about this and they said that they are only polite to those people they know, those people in their social and business circles, nobody else matters. read more
