It seems music is an essential part of surgical culture. Long hours on your feet, or waiting for your role to play an active part in the procedure are shortened by a pleasant or fun atmosphere created by music. Most surgeons I know prefer a slow instrumental music which helps maintaim the serenity and dignity of the operating room (and not the party songs which would not seem appropriate for the type of work going on).
