Most commonly Europe is now divided in five parts, North, West, South, East, and Central. There is some squabbling which country belongs to each group, so the groups are not clearly defined. But generally "Eastern Europe" now is roughly the same area as the European part of the Soviet Union. read more
This is the most common map I could find on Eastern Europe. Many nations could be split into their own categories, perhaps putting them out of the Eastern Europe definition. Examples of this could be the Baltic or Balkan nations. read more
Finland is east of Poland (and north of the Baltic), so geographically it certainly is in Eastern Europe. Greece is also geographically in Eastern Europe (it’s south of the Balkans). However, we will only examine the part of Greece that is most tied to the rest of Eastern Europe: Greece’s northern portion. read more
