Hearing-impaired – This term is no longer accepted by most in the community but was at one time preferred, largely because it was viewed as politically correct. To declare oneself or another person as deaf or blind, for example, was considered somewhat bold, rude, or impolite. read more

The politically correct way is to call us “Deaf” (with that capital D, please!). As for “hard of hearing”, that’s coming to be seen as the artificially-created (by Hearing people, of course) , divisive term that it is and we are encouraging its disuse. read more
