Why do beavers cut down trees?

The beaver cuts down trees, or chews on the bark for two reasons. One is for food. While it may sample the bark of a larger tree, the beaver generally prefers small trees, branches, or twigs, and its favorite food is the water lily. read more

When they cut down trees, they are usually trying to access the leaves and other areas of inner bark. After stripping the tree, a beaver might drag it to the water to use as part of his dam if he's still building. read more
