Solar cells contain p and n type semiconductor on both side of the plate. The n type semiconductor side faces towards the sun but the other p side do not. You can buy AC or DC PV panels. Solar cells produce DC, but you can buy PV panels with built-in microinverters, which allow PV modules to produce AC directly.
