The linear gravity anomalies are believed to be caused by the presence of dikes - long, thin, vertical bodies of solidified magma in the subsurface. They are amongst the oldest features on the moon. The magma is about twice as dense as the surrounding regolith, so the large concentration of mass provides a slight variation in the gravity map. read more
