Are seals dangerous to swim with in open water?

Mothers do not teach pups to hunt; they learn on their own. Seals dive for three minutes at a time typically, but they can stay under water as long as 30 minutes and dive as deep as 600 feet. Unlike humans, harbor seals breathe out before diving. read more

A professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, on the central California coast, was killed by a great white a year or two ago while taking her regular morning swim, and the "experts" were quoted as saying she was swimming with seals, and should not have been doing that. read more

Today I went to a 'nearby' lake to try some open water swimming for the first time. I swam between 1 mile and 3/4 of a mile from one shore to the other. It was much harder than swimming a mile in the pool. The wind was up and some boat traffic in another part of the lake made for some very choppy water. read more
