Do fishes ever rest, or are they always swimming?

Fish need to sleep like any other animal, most lay under coverage on the bottom of the tank to sleep. My Bettas all lay down under their planted driftwood for bedtime while my Tetras do a sort of “still swimming”, they don't move but still float. Yes they do, I as a fishkeeper for over thirty years, most species sleep, some on the bottom, some sleep on plants like the betta fish. Some drift around in the water. Even sharks sleep. read more

Fish like zebra Danios, tetra fish varieties, Guppies and Mollies like to swim in groups. They do this to avoid predation by larger carnivorous fish like Cichlids. Being in large group will help them will intimidate the larger fish and also the fish will find it hard to target on a specific fish. read more
