Vicodin is an Opiate, a modified version of chemicals in the poppy plant, codeine if I'm not mistaken is modified into hydrocodone. So yes, it is a narcotic. The word narcotic has been incorrectly used for so long that doctors avoid using that word now, instead saying that it's an Opiate or Opioid, but never Narcotic. read more
