Is San Francisco city tap water safe to drink?

San Francisco has some of the best tap water in the country. It comes from Hetch-Hetchy reservoir near Yosemite. Occasionally, though, some silt seems to get into the pipes. I drink tap water but filter it first and have had no problems. read more

On average, 85% of this water comes from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, while the rest comes from local surface reservoirs in Alameda and San Mateo Counties, and, beginning in early 2017, from groundwater pumped from the Westside Basin Aquifer. read more
