Well, "San" and "Santa" mean "Saint" in Spanish, so those towns are really Saint Andrew and Saint Bernard and Saint Francis, etc., etc., etc., and that's because the territory that is now California was originally settled by Spanish Catholic Missionaries who set up Missions and Churches and named them after the Saints (see link, below). read more
