In northeastern Alabama, the mountains are typically narrow, parallel ridges running in a northeast-to-southwest direction, and often having rather flat tops. Geologically, these are part of what is known as the Ridge and Valley Province. In east-central Alabama, more of the mountains tend to be individual stand-alone peaks. read more
