Why doesn't League of Legends have more maps?

Its simple. There are 2 reasons for this lack of map variety. 1. Its a MOBA not an RTS. SC2 and other RTS's design the map to fit around the game's units. Ie. lets make sure theres a some well placed mineral lines around the map. read more

League of Legends currently has four maps: Summoner's Rift (5v5), Twisted Treeline (3v3), Howling Abyss (ARAM) and Crystal Scar (Dominion). The reason there isn't more variety is because more variety isn't necessary. read more

Riot doesn't want to split the playerbase between maps, as it would result in longer queues (which is why we don't have ranked dominion). They also have a hard enough time just balancing Summoner's Rift, not to mention that it takes time and resources to come up with a new map. read more

There are 4 maps, Summoner's Rift, Twisted Treeline, Proving Grounds, and Crystal Scar, but Summoner's Rift is by far the most popular. It doesn't get boring because there are so many different champions to play and so many nuances to how the game is played that it takes a good amount of time just to get the very basics down. read more
