Jim Del Bondio is the fourth generation of a family that has been farming Napa Valley vineyards since the late 1800s. In 1931, his father, Andrew, began a lifelong career managing agricultural properties for the Pelissa family, which owns Napa Wine Company in Oakville and has Napa Valley holdings of 1,000 acres. Of that, 635 acres — 35 percent in the Oakville appellation and 65 percent in Yountville — are certified-organic vineyards.
Being sister winery to Far Niente, Dolce essentially produces a very competitive Sauternes style wine, just made in Napa. As with the judgement of Paris, where it was proven California wines could hold up to the French, Dolce does no disservice to that reputation. I'm just sad I waited this long to give it a try.
