Why don't schools teach nutrition and diet?

They have a hard enough time teaching kids to read, write, and do math. I wouldn't expect too much. I don't mean to sound flippant, I do agree that obesity is a horrible problem, but there are only so many hours in the school week, and there have to be priorities. Finally, obesity goes well beyond nutrition. Diet affects obesity, but so does physical activity and other things such as the environment, economics, metabolism and potentially other things such as the microbiome. read more

I spent twenty years trying to figure out a better diet, eek out a little more willpower, figure out a better way to exercise, and while I may have lost a thousand pounds trying all that stuff over two decades, I gained 1330 pounds of it back, ie I weighed 330 pounds when I realized all that stuff I'd learned nutrition, dieting, exercise, and all those neat little diet tricks were worthless because I hadn't changed core beliefs and attitudes about food. read more
